Susan W Bailey, another author in “Alcott’s Imaginary Heroes,” writes about the upcoming celebration at Orchard House. Her blog is where I first learned about the anthology and about the community of modern Alcott scholars.
Louisa May Alcott is My Passion
It’s coming up fast! In less than 2 months we will celebrate the anniversary of a classic; a book that has profoundly influenced women around the world since 1868. That book? Little Women of course!
Louisa May Alcott’s Orchard House is throwing a bash and you’re invited – Sunday, September 30 from 1:30-4. Stay tuned for details …
A great way to do that is to follow Orchard House on Twitter – @LouisaMayAlcott
“Like” their Facebook page too.
One detail I can share is that copies of Alcott’s Imaginary Heroes: The Little Women Legacy from Pink Umbrella books will be available for sale. Contributors will be on hand (including me) to sign your copy. 10% of all book sales will be donated to Orchard House.
My essay is titled “Louisa May Alcott as muse, guide and grief counselor.”
Alcott’s Imaginary Heroes: The Little Women Legacy is also available for pre-order…

Hi Karen – it’s great you’re keeping us informed about the Alcott exhibition … I’ll enjoy the reading. Pity you can’t get back across … but the States is one large country. I’d love to see the Ada Lovelace exhibition … cheers Hilary

It’s a small celebration and the book is a labor of love with 10% of the profits going to Orchard House. So there’s not a big publicity fund. I’m okay with that. Our local library may be planning an event!

I wish I could, but I live in California now and don’t have plans to come east! I used to live in Belmont (MA) and I have toured Orchard House. It sounds great!

I’m having a little trouble deciding what CA landmark I want to photograph myself reading Little Women next to! There’s an Ada Lovelace exhibit at the Computer Museum, not far from me. Maybe I will go there, in keeping with the Victorian-era feminist theme!

That sounds good! I live near Concord but I am also tempted to do Fruitlands instead since Concord will be a popular choice. I think I’ll have to bring a friend along — I can’t figure out how to take a selfie and read at the same time! 🙂

I followed the link to your Beth post and I loved it. I too am a musician, I sing and play guitar. And I also sing for the church. And I also consider myself an introvert. I have to tell you that I got to see an advanced screening of the new Little Women movie featuring Lea Thompson and I think you will really like the portrayal of Beth as it fits right in with your post. They emphasize the introvert part of her, not the shyness. They really develop her character very nicely.
